Reality is always cruel

Instead of a lobo day, i was occupied with a product training by my colleague from The States. He touched down yesterday and this is his first trip to S'pore. Talking about this, i was quite disgusted and pissed off with my local management at the way they handle things. I shall share with you how i felt on this whole incident.

Firstly, if it wasn't I who raised up, i think no one bothers (not even HR) to make arrangement for this poor guy on his accommodation, airport pick up, programs lineup etc just because his position is only a Product Specialist...Why did i say so? Well, one of my colleagues told me that our Area Sales Manager (Mr A) actually commented this "He's not VP, why should i ferry him around?!" Hei!! What kind of remark is that? Out from a manager's mouth? He's afterall one of us and did lend you helping hands when you need it!! I felt sooo ashamed working under Mr A! Now i know if he really had a wedding dinner to attend when he rejected to pick him up from the airport......

This wasn't bad enough. Let me tell you another example and this time was from our MD. Over lunch today, he flashed us an evil grin and delibrately spoke in mandarin infront of my USA colleague. "You know what? He's very shua gu (mountain tortise in hokkien, meaning not being exposed to the outside world) as his passport is brand new!!"

Hei Mr MD, does that mean he's only constrained within his good old America?! Pls for goodness sake, NO!! Can you pls have a broader perspective when you look at things and not jumped into quick conclusion? Oh yah, MD was supposed to send him back to the hotel BUT he left him w/o informing...RUDE. In the end, I called a cab for him and he left the office with a sad face of course...

Can you imagine your first trip to a foreign country and being treated in this way? Being pushed around like nobody's child, being so helpless and yet got to put on a strong front so that these bunch of people dare not look down on you further? Sad isn't it? But I always believe "What goes around comes around...." So it's better to put yourself into others' shoe and feel as if you were them...

He would be treated differently if he is a customer, a big shot, or someone who has a good r/s with your company pple.
I got a col who once went to Indo alone to meet our counterparts there. The mgr din even bring her around but merely assigned a driver who can't speak English to fetch her around. Other Indo cols brought her to eat their local food Nasi Padang (involves recycle of food) which caused her to have severe diarrhoea.
What an unpleasant experience..

Was told by my colleagues that MD was being left alone (self-entertained) when he was in US recently and that explained "What goes around comes around" theory...Serve him right!
